Paper, markers, colored markers and crayons

Procedure:
Using Google.earth type in the address of the school.
Have students talk about what they see.
Spend some time looking at different types maps
Review map vocabulary for word wall
Discuss elements of maps
Go over directions and compass rose
Activity:
Students will draw a map of their community. They should include directions, map key and labels
Compare drawn maps with actual maps
Lesson 2
Objective:
To locate the community we are studying
Materials:
Laptop
Projector

Procedure:
Review vocabulary: weather, topography, geography and natural resources
Using Google.earth and maps locate where the community is in the world
Explain that where a community is located on the earth will infulence a lot about its weather, topography, geography and natural resources
Using google.earth.com type in the community of study (Ex. Paris, France)
Zoom in and ask students what they notice? Chart responses
Compare to map and ask students to comment on differences. Chart responses
Activity
Have student jot down what they know about the community and what they want to know about their community |
