Overview

This project allows students to examine and explore cultures and communities of the eastern hemisphere. Based on  the lenses of geography, topography, climate, natural resoureces, and weather, students will learn how these factors impact the way people live in the eastern hemisphere.

Sixth grade students will learn about interactive online resources to inform them of the lives of people half a globe away.  They will also make direct contact with others around the globe to get first hand information about these communities. The project is multi-disciplinary and incorporates information literacy, science, language arts, in addition to social studies to further enhance student learning. Students are encouraged to see not only the differences, but also the parallels found between their daily lives and those they will come to know.

The culminating activity is an interactive presentation that includes insights into the communities, as well as the individual lives of those from such diverse and rich cultures.
